Yesterday morning, our youngest daughter confided in me.
She climbed into my lap and nuzzled her soft chubby cheeks on mine.
“I’m scared to be a softball girl.”
I asked her why she was feeling scared about playing softball all of a sudden.
“I’m scared to catch the softball when it goes in the air.”
Tears started welling up in her eyes.
I wasn’t expecting this.
She’s been talking for months about how she can’t wait to be a “softball girl.”
She loved playing tee ball this spring.
But she really wants to play softball with a team of all girls.
She sees her big sister have so much fun in the dugout with her team, saying their little cheers together and hugging each other after big plays.
She wants to have this too.
But she’s a little scared of catching the ball when it’s in the air.
