We had our second tee ball team practice last night.
It’s my first time coaching.
It’s our five year old daughter’s first time playing on a sports team.
It’s also the first time I’ve had to handle a kid with disciplinary problems.
This was only our second team practice.
But I remembered this kid not listening very well the first practice.
So I made sure to keep a close eye on him.
Five minutes into our practice, he uses his glove to hit my oldest son, who is helping me coach.
I pulled him aside to address this.
I told him we don’t ever hit or touch a teammate like that.
Five minutes later, he kicks my son hard in the shin.
I pulled him aside again and gave him a stern warning.
If he touched anyone again, he would have to leave practice.
He proceeded to not listen well and talk back to me throughout practice.
But at least he wasn’t going to hurt any of the other kids.
Or so I thought.
