Yesterday was a day our kids will remember for a long time.
The eclipse surpassed all of our expectations.
We were in the path of totality.
It was awesome.
My husband picked the perfect viewing spot.
He made white chocolate drizzled popcorn.
We spread out our blankets on a flat grassy hilltop.
As we watched and waited for the last sliver of sun to disappear, we ate popcorn.
We played catch.
We talked.
We didn’t have any other distractions.
No chores to tempt us around the house.
Just us and our kids.
It was incredible.
Our youngest daughter was nervous about the sky going dark.
We were near the woods.
She was worried wolves and other animals would come out, thinking it was nighttime, and scare her.
I resisted the urge to tell her there was nothing to be afraid of during the eclipse.
I reminded her she was with her whole family and that we would help her feel safe and brave.
By the time the sun was completely covered by the moon, we were in awe of what we saw in the sky.
Our oldest son loved seeing some of the planets, shining bright like little stars in the sky.
Every time a group of bats flew above us, our oldest daughter would get excited and point them out.
Our youngest daughter snuggled on me and just kept saying one word:
