Growth is a funny thing.
Our oldest daughter had an indoor softball tournament this weekend.
At her last tournament, she really struggled with her hitting.
She didn’t get a single hit in her final games in October.
She was frustrated.
Her coach could tell.
He knew she could do better.
Our daughter knew she could do better too.
So they got to work.
For the last two months, they’ve been working together.
He completely changed her swing.
She had to relearn everything she had been taught about hitting.
It was a struggle at times, as she kept making the same mistakes over and over again.
But over the last eight weeks, she got a lot better.
The little steps were adding up to big progress.
By the time this weekend rolled around, she was excited to go hit in a game.
She looked more confident than ever walking up to her first at bat.
She was ready to hit.
And she did.
She blasted the ball into the outfield, scoring two runs for her team.
All of her hard work had paid off.
It’s funny when you practice hitting indoors in a small batting cage.
You have no idea how far you’re actually hitting the ball because the netting prevents it from leaving your 10 feet by 30 feet rectangular cage.
So it surprised her to see how far that first hit went.
It’s like that when we are working hard to get better at something.
Our growth happens in small increments.
It’s hard to see how far we’ve come because the growth comes one step at a time.
Be patient with yourself.
Your growth is happening — you just can’t see it yet.
Here’s to embracing the small steps to get see big growth,
Lauren
