I struggle with feeling like my work at home with our children matters.

I worked so hard for so many years at my public relations job.

I loved it, even thought it was a demanding and sometimes stressful career.

I was even made a partner in the agency, bringing home a great income for our family.

Now I am home with our young children full time.

It’s demanding in a different way.

But I absolutely love it.

I am so grateful I have the ability to be with our children during their younger years.

Not every family gets to make this choice.

I am very blessed to be a stay at home mom right now.

But that doesn’t mean I still don’t struggle with realizing this one truth:

I am still contributing to our family — just in a non-financial way now.

I was raised to equate worthiness as a spouse with working hard, so this is a deeply ingrained belief I am working through as an adult.

If you’re a stay at home parent struggling with any of these beliefs, please know you’re not alone.

You are doing work that matters.

I have to remind myself of this daily.

We are all doing work that matters, just in different ways.

Here’s to knowing your work matters,

Lauren
